At last the long awaited notes from the fourth annual Klitzekleine ring are here. The tasting was held in September-2008. Read the notes here. Vinmonopolet's news March-09. Here are some short comments on wines that you should look out for. On Monday 30th of September 2008 we visited Martin Müllen for a tasting of the 2007-vintage. We mostly focused on the Trarbacher Hühnerberg and the Kröver Paradies. Read the notes here. The 57th weinversteigerung in Bad Kreuznach displayed wines from Nahe, Ahr, Pfalz and Rheinhessen. Read the notes from the auction here. Next up is the yearly tasting at Daniel Vollenweider in Traben-Trarbach where we tasted through the 2007-vintage. Also included were a couple of wines from his frinds. Read the notes here. So we are back again in the Mosel once more. On the first day we went with Karlheinz (Charlie) Gierling to Jos Chrisoffel Jr. to taste the wines from the '07-vintage and, as it turned out, a lot of older wines also. Here are the notes. Last visit in Franken was in the western part. We stopped in Bürgstadt and visited Rudolf Fürst, the best producer of wines from this area that makes mostly red wines. Read the notes from the tasting here. Castell is an old wine-producer in the Franken with a great track record of quality. We stopped be for a short tasting of some wine in September. Read the notes from the tasting here. The next stop was in Randersacker at a small family-run company with a name well-known for almost a 100 years. The notes from Schmitt's kinder you will find here. Second visit in our trip around Franken was to Horst Sauer in Escherndorf. Read the notes from the tasting here. In September 2008 we also took the time for a week-long visit to the region of Franken. On the first stop in Iphofen we visited Hans Wirsching. A winemaker whose wines we admire. So it was time for an in-depth tasting of mostly the very good 2007-vintage. Read more here. On October 6th Roberto Anselmi visited Oslo for a brief presentation of some of his wines. Here are our impressions. The VdP Grosser ring weinversteigerung took place in Trier on September 26th 2008. Again small lots of special selected cuvees were to be sold for very high prices. We were there and here are our notes of the wines that were present at the auction. In January Jean Sebastian Marionnet from Herny Marionnet/Domaine de la Charmoise visited Oslo for a short tasting. In Bad Kreuznach the best wines from Nahe, Ahr and Pfalz were up for sale. Here you can read the notes. Someone once said to me that three years in a row makes a happening annual. So the third annual klitzekleinen ring took place in the Julius Kayser-cellar in Traben-Trarbach on saturday 23d of September. Here you can read the notes. So again we went to the VdP-auction in Trier. The best cuvees of the 2006-vintage was a mixed case and a disappointment after the fine 2005-vintage. The wines did not have as clean botrytis as last year and there was a lot of fat and sweet wines. Tasting notes here. Last winemaker-visit in Saale-Unstrut went to Winzerhof Gussek. Together with Bernhard Pawis and Lützkendorf, Gussek is the last of the three top producer of the region. Here are the notes from the tasting at Gussek. Next visit was to the other VdP-member in Saale-Unstrut - Weingut Bernhard Pawis. Here are the notes. In September we once again went to Germany for tastings. First we spent three days in the Saale-Unstrut. First we visited Uwe Lützkendorf for the second year in a row. Here are the notes from the tasting of mostly the 2006-vintage. On March 19th Stepahne Tissot visited Oslo for a broad tasting of his wines from the Jura. This was a interesting tasting which showed a winemaker that likes to experiment. Here are the notes. There are now 12 winemakers that are part of this ring of young winemakers in and around Traben-Trarbach. A couple of newcomers showed some great wines this years. Read the tasting notes here. Young Andreas Adam is a rising star in the Mosel, making wines from the Dhroner Hofberg-einzellage that deserves a better reputation. Under the family's AJ Adam-label he makes wines that made lead the way for more people to learn to know this vineyard. Here are the notes from our visit.
