Deep brick-red colour. The nose is a bit shy at first, opening up with 3-4 hours in a decanter. It remains a very masculine Santo
Stefano with loads of those typical low notes of tar, wet forest-floor, tobacco and anise. You could wish for more roses and high-notes,
yet the nose is very complex and fascintaing. In the mouth it is a fullbodied Barbaresco with quite chewy and concentrated fruit for
this vintage. Typically a bit hard style with medium acidity and a tannic end. Again the fruit is highly masculine. Complex, yet one
of the more firm and least elegant nebbiolos I have tasted from Bruno Giacosa. But fascinating fruit. Loads of tar, tobacco and
forest-floor. Evolved and on top now. Medium acidity. Tannic end. Great wine and a very rich '80. On top now, will last.
