I decanted the wine and found the colour to be disturbingly light and I found a little off-smell that I did not like. I then let the
wine rest in the decenter until it was time to eat. The colour was light onion-skin and quite much browning. But luckily the smell was
better than expected. Very mineral nose. Hints of hazelnuts, viols and only slight cherries and tar. In the mouth the wine seemed very
mature and medium bodied. Mineral approach also here. Some cherries, but mostly viols and nuts and with a great acidic structure. With
some more airing the wine changed a bit and the nose gave room for more and more roses and earth. With even more time I found only the
tarriness to improve. The wine changed a lot during the 1,5 hour we drank it. The tannins in this wine seemed very mature and there was
only a little bite in the back. Not at all much for a nebbiolo. Good length and matching it's 13,5% alcohol very nicely. To sum up this
was indeed a very good barolo that was very mature. Perhaps a slight disappointment, but then my expextations were very high. The
mineralness of this wine was amazing. 1967 was a year that did not produce long lived baroloes, but I believe that it could be better
bottles out there.
