Both the label and the cork of this bottle looked quite new, but there was a huge amount of sediment in the bottle. I opened the wine
before I made dinner and tasted it. The wine seemed very closed and had and overwhelming tarry note. I let the wine breed for about 1
hour and then it showed a quite complex and mineral nose. The typical tar-note was still there, but also with hints of cherries,
hazelnuts and slight roses. In the mouth the wine had an extreme structure. High acidity and very tannic. Definitely a traditional
style. The fruit was nice and mineral with hints of tobacco and slight leathery notes. But the fruitiness seemed unevolved and young
yet. I want to see a bit more complexity. But the quality of this great wine is there. It just needs another 5-10 years to open up.
After the wine was finished I took the remaining juice in the bottle (with all the sediment) and poured it in my glass, swirled the
glass and smelled (I very often do this with the sediment because I often feel that it has a strong and great smell, am I the only
one?). Here I found more complexity. Very nice leathery notes with hints of old wood.
