According to Wasserman the Chiniera and Grassos other cru Rüncot both comes from the Gavarini-vineyard in Monforte. While the 1,2 Ha. subplot Rüncot goes into the cru Rüncot, the 0,6 Ha. Chiniera was earlier divided into two bottlings. I have only seen this one bottling recently and believes it is their only "Chiniera" these days. This had a deep red colour. Deep for a nebbiolo, but light for a red wine. A touch of bricking. Nose first had hints of tobacco and tar. It was left in a Barolo-decanter for 5 hours. It then showed much more complex with cherries and very nice mineral/floral high-notes. Also some anise. In the mouth this was a full-bodied Barolo with concentrated and a bit sweetness in the fruit. Showing it's vintage. But the fruit is very nice indeed. Showing traditional flavours of tar, anise, old wood and floral notes. A bit more closed in the mouth than on the nose. Acids are very nice and the end is tannic. Tannins were mostly grapey, but had a slight sweetness and spicey edge that shows that some oak is put into the wine. But this is mostly a very traditional style and a great Barolo from the vintage. Needs 2-3 more years and will last a long time.
