At last I have managed to scribble down the notes from the tasting 16/9/2003 at Bernkasteler Ring 2003. I tasted through 37 of the 46 wines present. Here are the (short) notes and the resulting prices.

Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr riesling spätlese trocken 2002 (AP: 2 557 057 08 03)
Light straw, green colour. Lightly flowery and honeyed nose. Powerful and with good concentration. But acidic and quite rustic wine. Decent. Ausgebot 8,- Euro. Sold for 11,60 Euro.
Franz-Josef Regnery
Klüsserather Bruderschaft riesling auslese trocken 2002 (AP: 3 522 165 18 03)
Lightly woody nose. Not very clean. Powerful and young in the mouth. Flowery fruit and decent acidity. Disappointing. Not a good bottle. Ausgebot 10,- Euro. Sold for 16,24 Euro.

Light and slightly brown colour. More mineral and slatey nose. Some flowers. More closed in the mouth. Honeyed and flowery fruit. A certain elegance. Decent acidic structure. Difficult to taste now. Will be good. Ausgebot 10,50 Euro. Sold for 16,24 Euro.
Ayler Kupp riesling auslese 2002 (3 518 048 19 03)
Straw, slightly greenish colur. Appley and slatey nose. Good body, a bit closed. Structured and appley fruit. Some fine things here. Very good. Ausgebot 12,- Euro. Sold for 16,24 Euro.

Light green/brown colour. Closed nose. Some flowers. Medium bodied in the moutg. Good concentration. Flowery fruit. Good acidic structure. A bit spritzig. Good wine. Ausgebot 7,50 Euro. Sold for 10,44 Euro.

Light greenish colour. Elegant, flowery nose with some slate. Medium bodied, flowery fruit. Some elegance. Good acids. Good wine. Ausgebot 8,50 Euro. Sold for 9,86 Euro.
Merler Stephanusberg riesling auslese 2001 (AP 1 640 682 68 02)
Straw/yellow colour. Flowery nose with some earth and slight botrytis. Good body, not a very full auslese. More leafy, blackcurranty in the mouth. Again slight botrytis. Good balance. Very good. Ausgebot 16,- Euro. Sold for 30,16 Euro.

Wiltinger Klosterberg riesling spätlese 2002 (AP: 3 567 145 06 03)
Lightly browning colour. Sour-sweet nose with some petrol. Good body. Strangely evolved. Petrolly and flowery fruit. Some sweetness, decent acids. Disappointing. Ausgebot 7,- Euro. Sold for 9,86 Euro.

Kaseler Nies’chen riesling spätlese*** 2002 (AP: 3 519 004 06 03)
Yellow, lightly greenish colour. A bit closed nose. Some slate and flowers. Fullbodied in the mouth. Concentrated wine. Spritzig. Great acidity. Too young but very good wine. Ausgebot 8,50 Euro. Sold for 12,18 Euro.
Kaseler Nies’chen riesling auslese 2002 (AP: 3 519 004 05 03)
Straw colour. Appley and flowery nose. Some botrytis. Powerful and sweet in the mouth. With decent acidic structure and nice fruit. Very good wine. Ausgebot 13,50 Euro. Sold for 34,80 Euro.
Kaseler Nies’chen riesling eiswein 2001 (AP 3 519 004 01 02)
Yellow colour with some green hints. Highly typical fruity nose. Some earth and not very intence for an eiswein. Some thickness in the enctrance. Fullbodied and fruity wine with the slightly earthy touch. Sweet and with good balance. Very good eiswein, but for the ausgebot of 100,- Euro (0,5) I would have been disappointed. Sold for 208,80 Euro.

Greenish colour. Lightly spicy and flowery nose. Highly structured wine in the mouth. But with medium concentration of fruit. Not more than good. Ausgebot 8,- Euro. Sold for 10,44 Euro.
Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg riesling auslese 1999 (AP 3 533 117 17 00)
Straw colour. Petrolly nose with some flowery high notes. Medium bodied, petrolly and slightly green fruit. A bit soft style. Disappointing. Ausgebot 10,- Euro. Sold for 13,92 Euro.

Straw/green colour. Intence and tropical nose. Some slate. Sweet and powerful in the mouth. Much fruit. Medium acid and a bit soft structure. Decent. Ausgebot: 8,- Euro. Sold for 17,98 Euro.
Trittenheimer Apotheke riesling auslese*** 2002 (AP: 2 607 282 13 03)
Straw colour. Botrytised nose. Hints of honey and slate. Powerful style. Sweet. Quite simple fruitiness. Better structure than the spätlese. Very good. Ausgebot 13,- Euro. Sold for 38,28 Euro.

Greenish colour. Slatey nose with some sweet flowers. Powerful and mineral in the mouth. Complex and concentrated. Great acids and structure. Long taste. Very fine. Ausgebot 9,- Euro. Sold for 13,34 Euro.
Bernkastel-Cueser Weisenstein riesling auslese 2002 (AP: 2 586 009 13 03)
Straw colour. Some green hints. Tropical and qutie botrytised nose with hints of raisins. Good body, elegant mouthfeel. Fruity and tropical with appley finish and very good acidic structure. Very good wine. Ausgebot 14,- Euro. Sold for 20,30 Euro.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr riesling spätlese* 2002 (AP: 2 576 562 15 03)
Straw, slightly brownish colour. Slatey and nice nose. Disappointing in the mouth. Medium bodied. Tasted soft, short and a bit hollow. Disappointing from this producer. Ausgebot 8,- Euro. Sold for 11,60 Euro.

Fruity and intence nose, quite tropical, but with nice slatey notes too. Powerful in the mouth. Not without elegance. Slightly tropical fruit. Good structure and fine acids. Very good wine. Ausgebot 10,- Euro. Sold for 35,96 Euro.
Zeltinger Sonnenuhr riesling auslese*** 2002 (AP 2 576 562 29 03)
Raisiny nose. Much botrytis. Also some honey and blackcurrant. Thick entrance, showing some botrytis. Also some complexity, but too young. Also greatly structured and balancing acids. Great wine. Ausgebot 32 Euro. Sold for 278,40 Euro.
Zeltinger Sonnenuhr riesling Beerenauslese* 2001 (AP 2 576 562 48 03)
Golden colour. High viscosity. Very botrytised and concentrated on the nose. Raisiny. Thick in the mouth. Raisiny and botrytised. Some fruit-character. Very concentrated. Impressive mouth-feel. Good balancing acids. A powerful BA. What will it turn into?? Possibly very great. Ausgebot 200,- Sold for 986,- Euro.
Zeltinger Sonnenuhr riesling Trockenbeerenauslese* 2000 (AP 2 576 562 46 03)
Dark golden/brown colour. Nose is all botrytis and honey. Very thick and raisiny in the mouth. The most concentrated of the day. Quite closed up. Some fruit underneath. Very good acidity and length. Possibly outstanding and the best of the day, but needs time. Ausgebot: 300,- Euro. Sold for 2320,- Euro.

Erdener Treppchen riesling spätlese** 2002 (AP 2 583 092 21 03)
Straw coloured wine. Nose is very closed. Slight slate and flowers. More honeyed in the mouth. Structured. Some good things here, but very closed. Will be very good. Ausgebot 9,- Euro. Sold for 20,42 Euro.
Graacher Domprobst riesling auslese*** 2002 (AP 2 583 092 24 03)
Yellow colour. Nose is honeyed and fruity with some botrytis. Slightly thick entrance from the botrytis. But more fruity in the mouth. Great balance between sweetness and acids. Quite elegant. Great wine. Ausgebot 24,- Euro. Sold for 69,60 Euro.
Edmond Reverchon
Filzener Herrenberg riesling auslese 1997 (AP: 3 525 018 19 98)
Greenish colour. Botrytised nose. Some petrol. Developed in the mouth. Powerful auslese, but simple and almost buttery fruit and too low acids. Not good. Ausgebot 13,- Euro. Sold for 19,72 Euro.
Filzener Herrenberg riesling trockenbeerenauslese 2000 (AP: 3 525 018 21 01)
Very dark coloured wine. Almost brown, more than golden. Nose is old wood, some botrytis, but not very clean. Thick entrance in the mouth. But strangely hollow in the middle. And a woody fruitiness I don’t like. Decent acids in this one. But unimpressive wine. Reverchon does not make good wine these days. Ausgebot 220,- Euro. Sold for 406,- Euro.

Good straw colour. Intence honeyed and botrytised nose. Thick, sweet and raisiny and almost nutty in the mouth. But with decent acids to balance and long taste. Different but very good wine. Ausgebot 14,- Euro. Sold for 32,48 Euro.

Kestener Paulinshofberger riesling auslese 2002 (AP: 2 586 061 34 03)
Straw colour. Intence and botrytised nose. Much honey. Powerful in the mouth, but perhaps a bit lighter than expected from the nose. Highly botrytised and honeyed wine. But with good acids and a certain elegance. Great wine indeed. Ausgebot 13,- Euro (0,375). Sold for 63,22 Euro.

Tropical Juffer-Sonnenuhr. Slightly slatey, but not very mineral for this einzellage. Medium bodied and good balance in the mouth. But again quite simple and fruity. Good wine. Ausgebot 10,50 Euro. Sold for 18,79 Euro.

Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg riesling auslese 2002 (AP 2 576 185 40 03)
Straw colour with some green hints. Nose is mostly botrytised and raisiny. Fullbodied and thick entrance in the mouth. Much botrytis. Still with a certain elegance and good balance from the acids. Young, not much giving now but very fine quality. Ausgebot 22,- Euro. Sold for 58,- Euro.
Bernkasteler Badstube riesling Eiswein 2001 (AP 2 576 185 65 02)
Golden colour. Intence friuty and slightly tropical nose. Powerful and fruity in the mouth. Slightly tropical fruit. Great acids and long taste. Textbook eiswein. Great wine. Ausgebot 150,- Euro. Sold for 301,60 Euro.
Bernkasteler Badstube riesling Beerenauslese 2001 (AP 2 576 185 64 02)
Yellow colour. Botrytised and honeyed nose. Some fruity character. Thick entrance. Quite high on botrytis. More complex than the eiswein with hints of honey and some fruit showing. Very nice acids and very long taste. Great wine, even better than the eiswein. Ausgebot 200,- Euro. Sold for 649,60 Euro.
Ürziger Würzgarten riesling trockenbeerenauslese 2001 (AP 2 576 185 63 02)
Golden colour. Thick and high viscosity. Highly botrytised nose. But some fruity hints and even spices. Thick in the mouth. High botrytis and concentrated wine. Still great fruit-character, but very young and closed. Balancing acids. Another great effort from Pauly-Bergweiler. Ausgebot: 300,-Euro. Sold for 2204,- Euro.

Lightly green colour. A bit old-fashioned style. Nose is petrol and appley. Medium bodied and a bit light for auslese. Leafy style with some blackcurrant. Nice acids and balance. Good. Ausgebot 10,50 Euro. Sold for 14,15 Euro.

Yellow colour with some green reflections. Quite botrytised nose, raisin and honey. Quite closed in the mouth. But showing some nice fruit and good structure and length. Much botrytis. Will be great. Ausgebot 22 Euro (0,375). Sold for 64,96 Euro.

Riesling Eiswein 2001 (1 619 033 12 02)
This winemaker is situated in Bremm and presented only this non-vineyard eiswein. Green/straw colour. More appley fruit in the nose, slightly old wood. Lighty thick entrance in the mouth. Good fruit, but not the greatest depth or concentration. But the structure here is impressive. High acids and very long taste. Very good. Ausgebot 125,- Euro. Sold for 174,- Euro.
