I never really been a fan of the Pfaffenberg-site. The wines from here often comes around as quite simple IMO. But I know the
Schönborn highly regards this monopole-einzellagen. The wine has a golden/browning colour. Rich and botrytised nose. Honey, old
wood-notes, rustic and typical old Rheingau-style. Powerful and sweet in the mouth. Yeah they put a lot of botrytis in the wine.
Decent acids, but comes across as a sweet auslese. Traditionally made. Rustic. Hints of old wood. Lacking depth again. No great wine.
Arnt Egil Nordlien Tasting note: Feb-02
Golden, lightly brown, colour. Rich and botrytised nose. Hints of old woods, honey. Powerful, old-fashioned and sweet riesling
in the mouth. Olts of old woods in the fruit. Honey and botrytis. Quite rheingauish in style. Highly on the rustic side. But lacking
any great depth. Medium acidity and length. This bottle shows no great character or terroir.
