The Klitzekleine ring-2010 was held on September 25th. This year the ring had a new member - Kirchengut Wolf. The tasting also hosted some guests - Weingut Christian Klein from Kröv, Winzerhof Stahl from Tauberfranken and also Stuart Pigott was present with his single wine made in collaboration with Winzerhof Stahl.

Shy nose. Some slate and flowers. Easygoing, pure and slatey dry Riesling in the mouth. Fair concentration and structure. Good.

Sturmnacht 1792 riesling qualitätswein trocken 2009
A little riper and coraser on the nose with more earthy hints. Bigger wine in the mouth. More sweet flowers and earth in the fruit. Round and kind structure. Fair quality.

Trarbacher Burgberg Riesling spätlese trocken 2009
A little shy nose. Some slate and a touch of earthiness. Racier and finer minerality in the mouth. Modest concentration for this year. Tighter and better structure. Fine acidity and length. Good.

Riesling alte reben kabinett feinherb 2009
More citrus on the nose. Sweeter flowers, some minerality. A touch of residual sugar in the mouth. More power. Still not the most concentrated wine. A little simple and flowery fruit. Slate, minerality. Citrusy finish. Good.

Trarbacher Ungsberg Riesling spätlese feinherb 2009
More minerality on the nose. Some spontaneous notes? A strange rusticness. Fuller in the mouth with more pronounced minerality. Salte-notes. Slight flowers. Touch of residual sugars. Fine structure and length. The nbest wine from Böcking. Very good.


Kirchengut Wolf / M.& U.Boor

Riesling Schiefer trocken 2009
Slate and flowers on the nose. Slight refinement. Light and dry Riesling in the mouth with some minerality. Not too deep. Slate aand flowers. Clear style. Medium acidity and decent balance. Good. Fine for the price.

Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling spätlese trocken 2009
Sweetish flowers on the nose. Citrus and minerality. Dry Riesling in the mouth. Slim style with fine minerality. Quite refined Riesling. Fine structure. Good.

Noticably more evolved. Pretty nose. Mineral, some petrol and fine evolved complexity. Slim feinherb in the mouth. Fine underripe mineral fruit. Some flowers. Slim spätlese, but fine and clear style. Fine depth. Very good.

Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling spätlese 2009
Sweeter on the nose. More flowers, some slate and minerality. Sweet in the mouth. Riper fruits. Sweet-sour feeling. Pretty fruit. Flowery, a bit simpler. Some minerality. Medium acids and length. Good.

Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling auslese 2009
Sweeter and riper on the nose. More intensity. Minerality, slate. Some botrytis. Not the most concentrated auslese in the mouth, but fine and clear fruit. Light botrytis-notes. Mineral, slatey style. Fine acidity and length. Some dry-extract on the finish. Very good.

Withdrawn from the tasting. Not yet finished fermenting.

Reiler Mullay-Hofberg “Schäf” Riesling spätlese 2009
Mineral style. But also a little coarse with a light earthiness. Medium bodied, sweet-sour taste. Clear flowery fruit. Some citrus and slate-notes. Lacks a little depth which I have found in previous vintages. Fine balance. Good acids and length. Good.

Reiler Mullay-Hofberg Riesling auslese 2009
Anise and flowers on the nose. Sweet Riesling in the mouth. Some botrytis-notes. Darker, more anisy hints. Fullbodied and balanced auslese. Good acidity and length. Still young and a little simple, but seems to have the depth. Give it time. Very good.

Tropical nose. Lots of pineapple. Artificial feel. Some stone. Dry, round and mild Riesling in the mouth. More stoney than the nose. Lightly tropical elements. Simple wine with decent structure and length. Modest quality.

More stoney nose here. Slight tropical hints. Quite dry feinherb in the mouth. Medium concentration. Stoney fruit. Slight hitns of tropical fruits. Simple wine with fair structure and length. Modest quality.

Trabaner Gaispfad Riesling spätlese 2009
Sweet flowers on the nose. Sweet-sour Riesling in the mouth. Flowery and simple fruit. Decent structure and length. Another forgettable Riesling of modest quality.

Trarbacher Hühnerberg Riesling kabinett trocken 2009
Mineral and pretty nose. Stoney with some spontaneous hints. Dry, steely and mineral wine in the mouth. Fine minerality, quite salty. Some sweetness from the fruit. Good acidity and structure. Very good kabinett.

Kröver Paradies spätlese* trocken 2009
Aromatic riesling-nose. Hints of flowers and minerality. Some spontaneous hints. Fullbodied. Rounder and a little riper feel than the Hühnerberg. A little more earthy feel. Fine minerality, but a little lacking the focus of the Hühnerberg. Fine acidity. Good length. Good wine.

More mineral again. “Slimmer” nose. Stoney, mineral. Rounder and with more pronounced sweetness in the mouth. Bigger and riper style. Sweetish fruits. Lots of minerality. Fine acidity. Dry finish. Very good wine.

Peach, minerality, spontaneous notes. Fullbodied and sweetish kabinett in the mouth. Sweet-sour style. Still remains on the lighter side. Pretty fruit. Slight spontaneous hints. Fine acidity. Refreshing finish. Very good kabinett.

Trarbacher Hühnerberg Riesling spätlese 2009
More complex minerality on the nose. Obvious spontaneous hints. Some peach. Sweet wine in the mouth. Structured with matching acidity. Deep minerality. Some spontaneous hints. Some peach. Young wine. Fine acidity and good structure. Great wine. Needs time.

Kröver Steffensberg Riesling auslese 1999
Nicely evolved nose. Mineral, flowers, honey. Evolved complexity. Fulllbodied in the mouth. Slightly rustic style. Ripe fruits, lots of honey-notes. Evolved and interesting, but not as pure in style as the recent wines. Lower acids. Medium length. Very good wine.

From a single plot with old vines in the Ungsberg. Great nose. More depth. Fine minerality. Some spontaneous hints. Sweet and structured Riesling in the mouth. Lots of concentration. Mineral and citrusy fruit. Great depth. Fine acidity. Some dry-extract on the finish. Long taste. Great wine. My favorite from Weingut O. in ’09.

Sweeter nose. More botrytis noticeable. Fine minerality and slate-notes. Sweeter and riper in the mouth. Fuller style with some noticeable botrytis-fatness. Quite clear and mineral style. Slight spontaneous notes. Very fine botrytis-notes. Fine acidity and length. Another great wine.

Lightly evolved Riesling. Minerality and stone. Underripe style. Slim and dry riesling in the mouth. Quite high acidity. Refreshing wine with fine balance. Mineral fruit. Underripe and a bit on the light side. Fine and clear style. Good length. Good wine.

Kröver Steffensberg riesling trocken 2009
This shows more sweetness and ripeness on the nose. Hints of peach and slate. Dry riesling in the mouth. Riper fruits which gives a sweeter feel. Still fine slatey and mineral hints. Lots of peach. Good acidity. Higher alcohol on the finish. Good length. Good wine.

Kröver Steffensberg riesling spätlese 2007
More evolved nose. Slightly reductive style. Slatey, mineral nose. Sweetish and nice riesling in the mouth. Fine acidity and nice overall balance. Mineral, slatey fruit. Cool style. The fruit seems a bit closed and muted right now. Not the best phase for this wine. But seems interesting. Fine acidity and length. Very good wine, but needs time.

Kröver Steffensberg riesling spätlese* 2008
Underripe, very mineral nose. Complex and shows some evolvement. Sweet in the mouth with fine and cleansing acidity. The fruity is very crystal-clear. Snow.like quality. Mineral and evolved. Fine depth. This is drinking extremely well right now. Good length. Great wine.

Kröver Steffensberg riesling auslese 2009
Younger and again a little muted on the nose. Some sweet flowers, slate. Sweeter in the mouth with more ripeness and fuller body. Fruit shows some flowers and some minerality. Fine acidity and length. Very good.

Kröver Steffensberg riesling beerenauslese 2009
This also is a bit shy on the nose. Shows botrytis and slate-notes. Sweet, but a little light BA in the mouth. Very fine and clear botrytis. A highly mineral and slatey style of BA. Transparent style. Fine acidity and long taste. Great little BA that would be interesting to follow.

Slight sweetness on the nose. Hints of slate and flowers. Round and kind trocken-riesling in the mouth. Medium concentration for this vintage. Slightly on the rustic side with hints of slate and some minerality. Fine acidity and length. Fair quality.

Dhron hofberger riesling spätlese trocken 2009
Sweeter and riper on the nose. Hints of flowers and slate with a slight earthy hint. Fuller and riper on the mouth. Again a touch on the rustic side. Fine flowery fruit, hints of slate and slight earth. Typical. Fine acidity and length. Good wine.

Riesling alte reben trocken 2009
More minerality and depth here.Stoney, slatey nose. Slim, dry and purer style in the mouth. Quite mineral style. Good acidity and a citrusy finish. A light bitter touch. Good length. Good wine.

Kröver Letterlay riesling kabinett feinherb 2009
Sweeter nose. Flowers and slate. Simpler and fruitier style. Quite fullbodied kabinett in the mouth. Off-dry style. Slatey fruit. Hints of sweet flowers. Fair balance with ok acidity. Medium length. Good.

Slatey and mineral nose. Quite underripe for this vintage. Sweet, but a lighter '09 kabinett in the mouth. Fine slatey and mineral approach. Not the deepest wine. Fine acidity and length. Good wine.

Again a highly underripe wine for this vintage. Mineral, slatey nose. Slight hint of flowers. Sweet and medium bodied spätlese in the mouth. Fine fruit. Slatey, mineral. A little mroe depth than the kabinett. Finer acidity and length. Nice little '09 spätlese. Good wine.

Slightly evolved nose. Complexity. Lots of minerality. Pure style. Lighter wine in the mouth. Still young, but somewhat evolved fruit. Highly mineral approach and good complexity already. Fine acidity. Refreshing style. Good length. Drinking very nicely right now. Very good wine.

Schimbock riesling 2008
A completely different kind of wine. More open, flowery and fruity up front. Spicey, mineral behind. Fuller and sweeter in the mouth. Lots of fruit. Spicey hints. Minerality. Fine depth. Good concentration for this vintage. Fine acidity and length. Quite big style, and with fine depth. Great wine.

Wolfer Goldgrube riesling spätlese 2009
Flowery fruit. Some gooseberry. Complex minerality, lots of depth here. Powerful, sweetish and very concentrated spätlese. Fine fruit with great minerality. Even complexity. Fine acidity and length. Great wine. Perhaps the greatest vintage ever of the spätlese.

Wolfer Goldgrube riesling auslese 2009
Fine nose. Hints of botrytis, white fruits. Flowers, minerality. Deeper and darker notes. Sweet-sour and fullbodied auslese in the mouth. Young with a great minerality behind the fine botrytis-notes, white fruits and flowers. Some fatness in the fruit. Acidity is great and refreshes the wine. Good length. Great wine with a very promising future.

Wolfer Goldgrube riesling auslese 2003
Lots of tropical notes. Evolved and slightly complex. Some slate. Big and round riesling in the mouth. Fine fruit. Tropical, evolvement has been positive. Showing some secondary elements. Medium acidity. ROund and kind - making the wine a little creamy. Good length. Very good wine drinking nicely now.

Some sulphure on the nose. Hints of slate, gooseberries, minerality. Fullbodied and off-dry riesling in the mouth. Sweeter fruits and flowers. Slate, some minerality. But not very deep. Nice and round mouthfeel. Medium acids. Good length. Very good wine.

A little less intensity on the nose. Peach and slate-notes. Less interest than the previous wine. Sweeter in the mouth, more residual sugar here. Simpler and more flowery fruit. Light hints of slate. Fine balance with fine acidity. Refreshing finish and good length. Very good wine.

Enkircher Ellergrub riesling kabinett 2008
Light sulphure. Mineral style. Shows some evolvement. Fine complexity. Slim and pure wine in the mouth. Fruit still young. Mineral approach. Light and true kabinett-style. Refreshing mouthfeel with very fine acidity. Good length. Citrusy finish. Very good.

Enkircher Ellergrub riesling spätlese 2009

Still young and slightly in a reductive phase. Nose shows lots of minerality, slate-notes. Light flowers. Sweet and medium boodied in the mouth. Good concentration and great structure. Fine minerality. Good depth. Still young. Great refreshing acidity. Long taste. Citrusy finish. Did not show it's best today. Needs another 4-5 years. Great wine.

Enkircher Zeppwingert riesling auslese goldkapsel 2009
Yellow colour. Rich and intense nose. Botrytis, tropical fruits. Citrus. Hints of slate and minerality. Rich and sweet in the mouth, but not as thick as expected from the nose. More towards auslese than beerenauslese. Fine fruit. Slatey and troopical. Quite fruity. Citrusy hints. Medium acidity and long taste. Great wine that is very tempting right now.


Winzerhof Stahl, Taubertal

Damaszener Stahl Hasennest müller-thurgau trocken 2009
Stoney müller-thurgau on the nose. In the mouth it is more aromatic. Spicey notes and again stoney. Pure and very dry style. A bit simple. Good acidity. Lighty bitterness on the finish. Fair quality.

Damaszener Stahl pinot cuvee trocken 2009
From grauburgder and weissburgunder. More leafs on the nose. Weissburgunder-aromatics. Again stoney hints. Light and dry wine in the mouth. Stoney and mineral. Medium acidity. Again slihtly bitter on the finish. Dry finish. Fair quality.

Damaszener Stahl silvaner trocken 2009
More sweet-sour nose. Leafs, gooseberries, minerality. Round and kind silvaner in the mouth. Still a very dry style. Finer fruit. Leafs, typical silvaner-hints. Light bitterness on the dry finish. Good wine.

Edelstahl Silvaner trocken 2009
More minerality on the nose. Leafy hints. Typical to the grape. Fuller in the mouth. Still slim and dry style. Some fine minerality. Leafy hints. Medium acidity. Light bitterness on the dry finish. Good, but not much more interesting than the previous wine.

Edelstahl - best of Silvaner trocken 2009
Sweeter and more intense on the nose. Leafs, light flowers. Minerality. Rounder in the mouth. More fruit and sweeter mouthfeel. Still on the slim side. Flowery, leafy fruit with lots of stone and minerality. Medium acidity and light bitterness on the dry finish. Good wine and the best from Winzerhof Stahl.


Stuart Pigott, Taubertal/Berlin

GGgggrrrr Müller-thurgau trocken 2009
From Tauberzeller Hasennestle. 264 bottles made. Intense nose. Earthy, stoney, mineral. Some spice and obviously quite ripe müller-thurgau. Big and quite ripe in the mouth. Earthy and almost slutty aromatics. Lots of concentration. Dry and lots of alcohol. A bit earthy, stoney fruit. Hints of spices. Also some fine minerality, but would be better with more focus. Medium acids. Dry and alcoholic finish. Interesting for it's depth, but this lacks refinement and overall balance. Still a good wine.

Slate notes and a touch of earth in the nose. Medium body and concentration. Slatey fruit. Touch of flowers. Dry and medium acidity. Simple and forgettable. Modest quality.

From Enkircher Ellergrub. Mineral nose. Some petrol. Light touch of botrytis. Sweet '08 in the mouth. Flowery fruit. Again a light botrytis-note. Mineral. Slight development, but still on the young side. Not as open as many '08's. FIne acidity and length. Very good wine.

From Enkircher Ellergrub. Great nose. Pure and slatey. Mineral. Light botrytis-notes. Fullbodied and sweet in the mouth. Some fatness from the botrytis. Very fine and transparent. FIne mineral and flowery fruit. Still a bit creamy with lots of residual sugar. Fine acidity with a lot of cut. Great wine still on the young side.

Bergrettung+ riesling auslese 2006
From Enkircher Ellergrub. A completely different style. Loaded with botrytis. Honey-notes. Earth. Thick and sweet in the mouth. Again lots of botrytis-notes. Honey and earth. Big and rich. Round and kind acidity. Good length. Well-made auslese from this year. Evolved. Very good.
