This blue grape is found mostly in the Massa-Carrara-area
northwest in Tuscany but not mentioned in any appelations.
Here it is often blended with the sangiovese, but sometimes
found as a varietal-wine. Azienda agricola CIMA makes a IGT
simply named Massaretta which is a varietal on this
grape. In Chianti Colli Aretini the producer Mannuci Droandi uses the barsaglina as a blending-component. The grape gives medium
bodied and fruity wines which can show some tannins.
