We went to Maximin Grünhaus for a tasing again together with Peter Ruhrberg and Sasha. In a speed tasting we managed to get through 12 wines in around ten minutes.
Herrenberg riesling QbA trocken 2004
Fresh and flowery wine. Dry, medium bodied with quite round acids. Uncomplicated.
Abtsberg riesling kabinett trocken 2004
A little more intense and with more slate and minerals. More fullbodied and structured. Far better IMO.
Abtsberg riesling spätlese trocken 2004
More intense wine with the same aromas. Rounder in the mouth with more fruit, but not more interesting.
Herrenberg riesling kabinett feinherb 2004
Off-dry wine. Floral and some earth. Quite acidic in the mouth.
Bruderberg riesling QbA 2004
Sweeter, more aromatic and flowery. Light slate. Quite simple wine with fine structure.
Abtsberg riesling kabinett 2003
And now for something completely different. Highly intense and tropical fruit. Too ripe for me. Powerful and sweet kabinett with medium acids. Not my style.
Abtsberg riesling kabinett 2004
More sub-dued mineral and slatey nose. Fine fruit, medium bodied and very elegant in the mouth. Acidic, appley finish. A very fine kabinett.
Abtsberg riesling QbA 2004
More floral wine. More power and sweetness. Less mineral. But fine structure. Another very good wine from the abtsberg.
Herrenberg riesling spätlese 2004
More earth with the flowers. Not as sweet in the mouth with fine balance. A fine herrenberg.
Abtsberg riesling auslese 2004
Very good auslese. A bit sour-sweet with some botrytis. Great balance and length. Great wine.
Abtsberg riesling auslese#122 2003
Intense tropical and perfumed nose. Again very ripe style. Again too much for me. Powerful and slightly fat. Medium acids.
Abtsberg riesling BA 2003
This was also tropical, but finer fruit. Some botrytis. Some fat and medium acids in the mouth. Good length. Quite nice BA.
