Tasting notes

Cornacchia makes very decent and cheap Montepulcianos. This wine is Barone Cornacchias attempt to make a barrique-aged montepulciano. It is a heritage from a time when everyone in Italy tried to make barrique-aged reds. I hope they learned the lesson with more recent vintages as this was a poor example. Dark brick-red colour. Oaky nose. Light matured complexity, but very dominated by oak. Light hints of red fruit and tobacco. Medium bodied montepulciano in the mouth. Fruit is again highly dominated by oak. Shows very little of the fruit. This was probably overoaked from the beginning and age has not helped it a bit. Medium acidity and a hard and woody finish. Definitely unbalanced. Avoid.
