Möt Ziflon is one of the old and famous nebbiolo-based wines of the Novara-Vercelli wine-scene. Produced in the town of Suno it is one
of the most northern of these wines giving a more refreshing and delicate structure. Somewhere along the way Möt Ziflon lost much of
its fame. As Suno is a bit remote from the rest of the wine-scene in Novara, it was never included in any of the DOC’s that was formed
in the 60’s and 70’s. Today it is a part of the umbrella-appelation of Colline Novaresi DOC. The name Möt Ziflon is a local dialect.
Möt having the same meaning as bric/bricco meaning the top of the (vineyard)-hill. Ziflon means birdsong.
This bottle of Möt Ziflon had fill-level A/B, great for such an old bottle. The colour was light and brick-red in the glass. The nose
did not show much first and it needed some time in a decanter. After 2-3 hours of air it opened up beautifully. Fragile and fragrant
nose. Complex and evolved. Hummus, roses, almond. Bright notes and a citrusy edge. In the mouth it is a delicate and light nebbiolo,
yet showing the grape’s dry structure. It has an inner strength and a great concentration of fruit. A grest almost linear taste-curve
with loads of taste from beginning to end. High and refreshing acidity. Dry and almost citrusy and floral finish with a long tannic
taste. Really an outstanding and unique wine that has kept very well.
