Tasting notes

In 93 Scapra made no Barbera-cru's and decided to only release 4000 bottles of barbera labelled as generic Piemonte DOC. This wine had a clear red colour. Quite light but without any hints of browning. Fruity smell of rasberries, currant, leather and with a touch of roses. Very nice smell. Medium bodied in the mouth and fruity in the mouth too. But very different from the fruitbomb barberas you find today. This was more reserved with hints of currant and rasberries with nice minerality behind it and the typical very high "Scarpa-acidity" that floats like a lemon-breeze through the whole tastecurve and stays in your mouth for a long time after the wine is gone. Not much tannins here and of course no oak. A very good barbera that probably will age for a long time and will gain with 2-3 years more in the cellar.
