A couple of days later we were in Piesport to visit Theo Haart. A great and friendly man who also took the time to show us the roman wine-press found nearby. The wines of Reinhold Haart is IMO some of the cleanest and purest found in the Mosel with great depth. Showing what the great sites here can do. The wines we tasted were mostly from the 2001-vintage. All rieslings.

Piesporter Goldtröpfchen trocken 2001, AP 0302
A good trocken rielsing, showing flowery and leafy aromas with hints of cassis. Lightly mineral. Dry in the mouth. Good balance.

Piesporter Goldtröpfchen spätlese 2001, AP 0802
Straw colour with some green hints. More mineral nose than the trocken. Still with the leafy, cassis-note all over it which I find so typical of the Goldtröpfchen. Good body and a quite deal of rs in the mouth. Very young and more fruity in the mouth. Minerals are there. Acidity is there. Good length. Needs time.

Piesporter Domherr auslese 2001, AP 0602
Same colour. Less fruity and leafy style. This shows more slatey minerals. Lightly flowery. Not so complex. Powerful in the mouth. Minerals, flowers lightly berryish. Good acids and length. Young, but will probably drink better at a young age than the goldtröpfchens.

Piesporter Goldtröpfchen auslese 2001, AP 1002
Same colour. Good mineral depth in the nose, but again with that leafy/cassis/berryish-hints which gives it and extra dimension. Slight honey. Intence wine. Powerful in the mouth. Minerals much more subdued here. Leafy, more fruity and flowery. Sweetness very well balanced. Long taste. Very good indeed. Very young.

Wintricher Ohligsberg auslese 2001, AP 1202
Lightly golden colour. More much more botrytis in the nose. Honeyed. Thicker and fatter in the mouth. Higher must-weights, a little less balanced acidity. Good length. A good wine, but less impressive than the Piesporters.

Piesporter Goldtröpfchen auslese GK 2001
Versteigerung-bottling. Same colour as previous wine. A more exotic nose and much more botrytis. Hints of honey, slightly leafy. Thick and concentrtaed in the mouth. Good balancing acids. Long taste. Outstanding.

Piesporter Goldtröpfchen 1971
I actually did not get the prädikat on this one. I guessed auslese and Theo Haart said it had a must-weight of 90 Oechsle. So perhaps auslese or spätlese. It had a golden colour and showed a complex nose of cassis, minerals and roses. Lightly earth. Medium bodied in the mouth and very well subdued rs. Great balance. Long taste. Good. Still quite fresh.
