Olaf Schneider conducting vines in the Ungsberg-vineyard.
Tasting notes
To make a beerenauslese extraordinary skills is needed by the winemaker. Doing the selection right is extremely important and more
care is neede during fermentation. For many winemakers it is a wine one starts to make when one masters the more normal types of wine.
2005 was the debut-vintage for the Weingut O.. The vintage was a strange one and the first grapes harvested this year went into
this cuvee. Not an easy start, but it was the way nature shaped this vintage. Lots of high oechsle ripe grapes with beautifully
clean botrytis. So it turned out Olaf Schneider should make his debut with making beerenauslese. Later he picked grapes for
spätlese and auslese from the Kräuterhaus-vineyard. And what a debut it was. I have had the pleasure to taste this BA in both 2006
and 2007. This bottle was opened to me by Olaf Schneider as one of his last bottles in his cellar and we shared it at his home one
very warm late September-evening outside of his home Rosenhof in Rissbach. And what a fantastic beerenauslese this has turned into.
Lightly golden colour. Great nose. Aromatic and fruity. Spices and botrytis. Complex and fascinating fruit. Powerful and sweet
beerenauslese in the mouth. Concentrated and fruity style. This shows a great selection and very fine botrytis-notes. So pure and
transparent. Aromatic, pure and complex fruit. Still on the young and primary side, but very tempting. Great acidic zip giving it a
long and refreshing finish. Tremendous quality.
