Mario Pina used to be the best baker in the little town of Trescore Balneario close to Bergamo when he all of a sudden found out he was
allergic to flour. The worst possible thing that could happen. So he had to close the bakery and look for another job. As he was the
brother-in-law with the famous Luigi Veronelli that started making himself a name as the italian wine-guru number 1, Mario Pina decided
to start as a wine-merchant and sell the wines recommended by Veronelli. The business went good and he later bought the old Cascina
Berlandesa - vineyard and farm on the hills around Bergamo. Here he started producing a wine from the blue moscato-grapes aiming for
the best wine possible and giving the few bottles of an extraordinary wine to good friends. Then his allergic reactions to flour
disappeared. He reopened a bakery but he was soon retiring and handed it over to new generations. But he kept the winery now on full
time. The wine had with time now moved to become DOC Valcalepio Moscato di Scanzo(rosciate). With the 1995-vintage he produced for the
first time more than 100 cases of wine.
Deep red colour. Very complex spicey and grapey nose. Typically hints of moscato, but his wine has a lot of complexity to it. Hints of
red berries, leather, flowers and slight herbs. Full-bodied and sweet in the mouth. Still great balancing acidity. Little botrytis. Not
much raisiny either. More cleanly fruity. Some sweetness from the alcohol in the finish (15,5%). Long taste. Little tannin. Excellent
wine. Drinking well now. No reason to age it more, but I think it will last.
