Sulphury and typical JJ-stink on the nose. Reductive and a bit smokey feel. Slate. Sweetish and appley Riesling in the mouth with moderat concentration and lightly mineral notes. Lightly bitterness in the finish. Decent quality.

Again lightly stinky and sulphure nose. Behind this shows some tropical notes and honey. Sweetish and clearer fruits in the mouth. Slightly on the leafy side. Fine minerality. Good.

More apples on the nose. Slate, sulphure, honey. Sweet and thicker riesling in the mouth. Fine minerality and depth. Pretty wine which shows interest. Again it shows a bitterness in the finish that seems typical from J.J.Prüm this year. Very good.

Appley, spicey nose with hints of honey. Fullbodied spätlese for 2008. Sweetish and spicey fruit. Slightly on the earthy side, not as clear and bright. Medium acidity and length. Decent quality.
Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling spätlese #14 2008, Weingut Fritz Haag
Fine clear J-S-nose of slate and blackcurrant. Mineral. Quite fullbodied ’08 in the mouth. Sour-sweet fruit with fine acidic backbone. Very clear and focused fruit. Great spätlese.

Again very clear and focused J-S on the nose. Slate, botrytis and a touch of blackcurrant. Rich and sweet ’08 riesling in the mouth. Yet it retains a slim mouthfeel. Some honey-notes in the fruit. But clear slatey and transparent feel. Fine botrytis. Decent acids and length. Another very good effort from Oliver Haag.

More mineral feel on the nose than Fritz Haags version. Hints of honey, blackcurrant and slate. Crisp J-S in the mouth. Great structure. Fine fruit. Mineral, blackcurrant. Fine depth. Very pretty acidity and long refreshing finish. The best spätlese of the day for me. Great.

Richer and more intense on the nose. Honey, slate, blackcurrant. Some botrytis. Sweet and rich Riesling also in the mouth. Very pretty botrytis and fine fruit. Slatey, mineral. Apples and blackcurrant on the finish. The again has a great freshness and solid structure. Good length. Great wine.

The nose shows lightly slate and blackcurrant-notes. Round and quite light kabinett in the mouth. Easy-going with quite simple fruit. Fine, bright acidity and length. Lacks interest.
Berncasteler Doctor Riesling spätlese 2008, Dr.H.Thanisch erben Thanisch
Spicey nose. Some apples. Quite different. Fine in the mouth. Slatey, appley fruit. Young and closed. Qutie small spätlese, but with fine acidity and structure. Good length. Good wine.
Pundericher Marienburg “Fahrlay” Riesling spätlese 2008, Clemens Busch
Quite ripe nose for an ‘08. Sweet flowers, slate. Fullbodied in the mouth. Fine fruit. Concentrated for the vintage. But pretty fruit. Flowers, slate, minerality. Fine acidity and length. Very good spätlese.
Pundericher Marienburg Riesling auslese goldkapsel 2008, Clemens Busch
Quite botrytised ’08 with a sweet and honeyed nose. Hints of wet forest floor. Rich and powerful ’08 auslese in the mouth. Concentrated wine. Pretty botrytis and lots of honeyed notes in the fruit. Sweet, but with a fine acidity to match it. Crisp and refreshing finish. Good length. Great wine.
Piesporter Goldtröpfchen 1er riesling spätlese 2008, Weingut St.Urbans-hof
Nice and typical Goldtröpfchen with hints of blackcurrant and slate. The nose is sulphury and not as giving. Better in the mouth. Lightly apple-peel. Fine acidity and balance. Very good spätlese for the vintage.

More muted on the nose. Some slate and apples. Quite rich auslese for this vintage, but also very high on acidity. The fruit does not show that much. Slate, apples. Hard to judge. Possibly not as impressing as the spätlese.

Sulphury and reductive on the nose. Apples, slight forest floor. Quite rich spätlese for the vintage. Still the fruit seems underripe, almost a little bitter. Apple-peel and greenish. Refreshing and high acids. Decent length. A little disappointing.
Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling auslese goldkapsel 2008, Le Gallais
A rich wine for the vintage. Botrytis and honey on the nose. Fullbodied and quite botrytised in the mouth. Slight bitterness and not the focus and precision this wine normally has. Decent acids and length. Disappointing.
Saarburger Rausch Riesling spätlese 2008, Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken
A little muted on the nose. Highly mineral and slatey. Very intense spätlese in the mouth. Lots of slate and apples. Fine minerality. Very young. Good acidity and length. This was a very good spätlese from Zilliken.

A lightly reductive and underripe spätlese. Hints of sulphure, slate. Quite slim spätlese in the mouth. Very Saarish style. Mineral, steely. Fine acidity. Crsip and refreshing. Good length. Very good.
Scharzhofberger Riesling kabinett 2008, Egon Müller-Scharzhof
Slatey wine. Some sulphure. Steel. Light and a little hard kabinett in the mouth. Very nice and typical Scharzhofberger-style. Steely and very mineral. Slate. Fine acidity. Some bitterness on the finish. Still very good kabinett.
Scharzhofberger Riesling auslese goldkapsel 2008, Egon Müller-Scharzhof
Fine nose. Scharzhofberger-aromatics of steel, slate, mixed with some botrytis and hints of blackcurrant. Thick and rich 2008-riesling in the mouth. Lots of botrytis in the fruit. Also fine and well-focused fruit. A bit on the creamy side right now. Very fine acidity. Good length. One of my favorites of the day. Great.

Botrytised nose. Hints of honey and slate. Thick and sweet TBA in the mouth. Very creamy style. High on residual sugar. Nice fruit. Pretty botrytis. Honey. Not the deepest TBA, more the weighty style. Fine acidity and long taste. Very good.
