Fine bottle with very good fill for such an old wine. The cork looked good, but was old. In the glass the wine had a light golden
colour. At first the nose is very shy, it opens more with some air. I was afraid it was completely gone, but there is life left.
Some dried flowers and lightly oxidative fruits. Some anise and light notes of sweet biscuits. With more air there comes more of
the usual Friuli-notes of salty, smokey minerality and anise. This is medium bodied in the mouth. The fruit is thin. Still there,
but fragile. This is clearly past its best, but still provides pleasure. Verduzzo as we know it today is mostly vinified to
half-sweet to full sweet wines. This ’38 is a dry wine. If this ever had some residual sugars it is long gone. There is nothing
here that hints of it. The wine seems slim and acidic. With light anisy and flowery fruit. A very light oxidative touch. Quite
recognizable as a Friuli-wine. There is a fine acidity here and the finish shows some dryness from tannins. Very good. Loads
of X-factor-points.
